The Hidden Costs of Digital Evidence- What you are spending to collect, store, and manage all your digital evidence is more than you realize.
Presenter- Tom Hessen
The presentation will provide an overview of the challenge of managing the abundance of digital evidence that agencies are faced with today. There will be a discussion of the anticipated growth of digital evidence and how that could impact an agency if not properly managed. We will explore all the different types of digital evidence that agencies can come in contact with and challenge the agencies to identify the different locations where their digital evidence is currently being housed. An overview of the considerations for how the information is currently being managed will be reviewed and then there will be an examination of chain-of-custody procedures and how chain-of-custody is typically being managed today by most agencies.
The next phase of the presentation will include a workshop where we will walk the participants through the steps that we take when we walk an agency through their digital evidence processes. A worksheet will be provided to each attendee so they can participate in a personalized assessment of their agency’s current processes. Tips will be provided to help attendees identify gaps that could cause potential problems for their agencies. We will offer best practices to help them improve their current processes and minimize their risk. The objective of this exercise is to help the attendees understand the enormity of their current and growing challenge and the need to identify strategies for dealing with it now and in the future.
